Welcome to AusRose

Established 1987

Since 1987 my wife Glynis and I have been Australian Bred Rose enthusiasts, it came to our attention many Australian roses had been lost over many years, and it was then we decided to do something about it and so set up AusRose. Although Australian Bred Roses are every bit as good as imports and generally better suited to the Australian climate, many were not well known. We decided that it was important to publicise:-, the existence of said roses; characteristics of individual cultivars; who breeds them; where they can be seen growing; to be exhibited at shows etc. One of the strategies used to promote Australian Bred Roses is related to where the roses can be purchased. Back in the early 90s, we went through various rose catalogues and identified the Australian Bred Roses in them. A list was drawn up and used to publicise both the Australian Bred Roses and the nursery selling them. Publications such as various newsletters and websites was used and culminated in a comprehensive list and article in the publication in the 2014 Australian Rose Annual, when Glynis and I were co-editors. The present list was last revised in 2020 and can be found in the latest copy of the AusRose Times.

Instead of going through the laborious task of going through the various catalogues, nurseries have updated their present lists so when used to promote Australian Bred Roses, it is accurate. The lists are included in the links to assist you. You can also request the updated version of AusRose Times - a newsletter by emailing a request to us at the links below. I believe in recent years, nurseries have noticed a big increase in the interest in Australian Bred Roses and at times many are sold out quickly.

This is the culmination of well over twenty years of an organized and concentrated campaign run by AusRose. We therefore invite to you to peruse the site, get inspired to grow Australian Bred Roses and buy Australian.
The first Australian Bred Rose of the Year was 'Joyce Abounding' in 2013

Glynis Hayne with her record winning unit of "Delicious" - Bud to Full Bloom at the
UNSH Regional Show October 2019. It won six Champion Ribbons at the show and
is to be a feat which will be hard to beat in the near future.
